In the “Movies”
I expect I’ve mentioned here how hard it is for me to see photos of myself. Traditionally, it’s been even harder for me to watch film of myself. “Movies,” as they say, rather than still photographs. Recently, I appeared on the Earle Farrell 4Memphis Show. My husband was there during the interview. He said I did a good job. But he wanted me to watch it for myself. I protested. Then there it was, playing on the TV (you know how you can watch YouTube on TV.) So I sat down, and I watched.
Imagine my surprise when I liked it.
It was a strange experience, like watching a different person on the screen. Of course, I usually see the world from this side of the screen, inside my head. I was watching her, and I thought, this is a funny woman. Not that she was trying to be funny. She just was. My husband said, “You’re making yourself laugh.” Ah, well. Yes.
Let me know what you think.

ps I’m falling in love with dark cherries this summer. They won’t displace my beloved watermelon, but they ight be my co-equal fruit this summer. Anyone out there like fresh dark cherries for summer?

Great interview Ellen! You were just naturally yourself, and that does not always happen in interviews with everyone – you were not nervous or self-conscious at all. Congrats! I hope your Murderous Women book sells in the millions. And on the tart/sweet cherry thing – I love them as well. But only the dark red ones. They are said to help with arthritis, so the more the merrier for me. Hope to see you soon . . .

Thank you! Yes, me, too, on the dark red cherries. Did I tell you about a friend’s neighbor who made a “cherry” pie out of Maraschino cherries? π
I would love to get together with time to visit…

What a engrossing interview …you are engaging and funny.

Thank you for watching! I can’t believe I’m even telling people about it, I’m usually so bleh! about this sort of thing. But I so surprisingly liked this one.

You looked and sounded great! I really enjoyed the interview and seeing you on TV (well, YouTube π). Yes, you were funny and also gracious and you exuded confidence. So, if you get another opportunity, go for it!
Ellen Morris Prewitt
Thank you, Marie. That’s really kind, for watching and letting me know you enjoyed it. I look back to the first time I read an excerpt from WWWMTTW and what a bust it was. I’m so glad it happened, so I had the opportunity to learn and improve.

I hated public speaking when I worked for state government, but it did get easier the more I did it. And I know I did get better at it because I learned … but I’m still glad I don’t have to do that anymore ππ

My parents MADE me take public speaking in the 9th grade because I bellyached so much about the terrible electives we had to choose from. Still burns me to say I’m glad I did.

Such a charming interview! I loved the sense of place, or, I should say, places. Also, thought it was fun to be in a clothing store, given how often we see your fashionable side here on the blog. I loved hearing your stories and about the writing process. It was such fun – and I wish we could meet in person some day, although I am not nearly as fun as you!

I know, we were in the lobby of the Peabody Hotel seated in a window in Lansky’s, which was where Elvis shopped. I really wanted to buy something, but (don’t tell them) their women’s clothing wasn’t nearly as cool as the men’s.
Thank you so much for watching, and I’m glad you enjoyed it. Yes, it would be wonderful to meet in person one day! We are so far apart geographically….
