Dog Days of Summer
I keep stumbling from day to day. Yesterday, I swam almost a mile then had to quit at 1550 yards. Y’all, I overheated IN THE POOL! I’ve never had that happen before. It’s an outdoor pool. The temperature in New Orleans during these dog days of summer was a “balmy” 89 degrees and a “feels like” of 108. Granted, when I slid into the pool, I thought, this is not cold. Usually my body wants to flee right back out, and I have to kick my legs, ginning up courage to jump in (every time, I’m saying.) I should have paid more attention to that. Anyway, I got a coconut milk and all was well.
Then we went to see Buddy Guy at the Saenger. It was his 90th birthday tour so I got dressed up for Buddy Guy’s 90th birthday (of course, I did.) Based on their attire, I’m not sure anyone else thought like that. The show was amazing. He was amazing. He sang and he sang and he sang, all while standing up (while I had cratered earlier in the day; I’m not 90 years old). But it put us quite late getting home, almost midnight. (I’m not 90, but we are old.)
So today, I am just DRAGGING. Of course, I did get my suitcase thoroughly and completely packed for Scotland. And I got extra keys made for the house. I went to the bank. I redrafted the opening to the memoir. But still. The bed looks sooooo good, I’m about to take a nap. With my dog. During the dog days of summer. Wish me luck!
