Caterpillars are cute little things, right? Not in New Orleans. They’re swarming, stinging, five-alarm dangers. Soon enough, they turn into buck moths, which can do great damage to the iconic live oaks in town. Seasons come, seasons go. Such is life In the South.

Evangeline and I have been glued onto the New Orleans front porch. Mild temperatures, the sun a gentle presence rather than a drum to beat you down. I glide on the glider. She scans the sidewalk for interlopers. We are having—and enjoying—Spring. Such is life in the South.

The little ferns are ferning. The Star Jasmine is saturating the air with sweetness. Ground cover roses emerge orange and blossom pink. We are awash in joy down here, living life in the South.
