Contemplative Writing Prompts for Lent: 24

I am offering y’all these Contemplative Writing Prompts for Lent: 24 during the Lenten season. But my Lenten practice is doing one meditative thing a day. Sometimes it’s contemplative writing. Other times not. When I swim, meditation takes care of itself.

Close against the wall, I hold my breath and sink. My body is enveloped in water. I press my feet against the wall, bend my knees, and push. I shoot forward through the underwater world. My arms form an arrow over my head, and I glide, my body undulating like a porpoise as I rise. I break the surface, widen my arms, turn my head for air, and kick. I am underway.

Each length, when I arrive at the end of the pool, the meditation repeats.

Today’s prompt: write about an underwater experience. The experience can be a time when you were literally underwater. Focus on your body. How the water felt. Warm or cold. Still or a pressing current. The whine of a ski boat or totally silent. Or you can write about a metaphorical time when you were able to shut out the noise of the everyday world and glide. Write what that success felt like to you.

(I hope I haven’t given you this prompt before–it’s kinda starting to run together 🤣 )
